Heating a wooden house

Heating a wooden house

09.05.2019 Construction technology

For a wooden house, there are no restrictions on installing a heating system. It can install gas, electric or solid fuel boiler, equip a fireplace, make the floor heating.

But choosing a heating system for a house from a bar, there are several nuances to consider:

Easy installation and installation efficiency. The solid fuel boiler can be installed in any house, but with gas and electric there can be problems. Many settlements and small towns are still not connected to gas pipelines.
Pricing. This includes the cost of equipment, payment for installation work, additional accessories.
Easy operation. It should take into account the area of the room, the speed of heating and the ability of the heating system to maintain the required temperature in a wooden house.
It will also be reasonable to take into account future costs (fuel, maintenance, etc.).
The aesthetic component. If you do not have a separate room under the boiler room or are planning to install a fireplace, remember that it should fit harmoniously into the interior of the house.

Gas heating

If there is a gas pipeline in the town or village, then a gas boiler will be a great option. Among the advantages of this type of heating is the low cost of fuel, the efficiency of heating (efficiency is about 98%), the possibility of automation of the heating system, reliability and trouble-free operation, the ability to choose the unit, taking into account the features of housing (individuality).

But there is no universal heating system, so there are drawbacks here as well. Thus, the purchase and further maintenance of the necessary equipment will cost a tidy sum. Approvals will also need to be issued.

Electric heating

In our country, electricity has long been considered an optimal and reasonably cheap source of energy. There is no need to sign a contract for this heating system, install expensive equipment to build a chimney.

There are many varieties of this system: convectors, boilers with the water system, infrared heaters, and floor heating. If a log house has a purpose for living throughout the year, then the classic system - boiler and batteries - is predominantly used. Convectors are selected for seasonal use.

Electricity heating has many advantages: environmental friendliness, high level of safety, ease of installation and operation, ability to regulate temperature.

But there are a number of external factors that can have a negative effect: voltage drops (so make sure that the electrical network is working properly before connecting), network congestion (find out what maximum power the network can withstand, because, in addition to heating, you will also use household appliances ), adverse weather conditions (interruption of electric lines).

Solid fuel boilers

An alternative to the two previous options would be a solid fuel boiler. Such a heating system is independent of external influences. It is necessary to plan such heating at the design stage, as in the presence of dimensional equipment, it is necessary to set up a separate boiler room.

But keep in mind that such a system should be constantly serviced (clean, select ash, etc.). There is also a high risk of explosion or fire due to improper maintenance.

The right decision will be to place the boiler room not in the house, but in a separate structure. This option avoids unwanted consequences and increases the level of security in a wooden house.

Furnace heating

This type of heating system has been known since ancient times because wooden houses were once heated only with the help of a large furnace. A beautiful stove can decorate the house.

Now, in addition to heating wood, you can use an electric oven. But firewood is considered environmentally friendly. However, furnace heating has its drawbacks: the high cost of equipment, the need for constant care compared to other options low speed of warming up the house. The furnace also requires an additional foundation.

Fireplace

An excellent option for a wooden house will be to heat a fireplace, which can be combined with underfloor heating, and to obtain an efficient source of heat.

For heating, a large area is not a suitable traditional fireplace with open firebox. Rather, it is used as a decorative element. It should be maintained at an appropriate temperature, difficult to operate.

But you can choose an alternative - a modern fireplace with cast iron contribution (closed type). The efficiency of such a heating system reaches 90%. It is completely safe and eliminates the risk of fire, which can not boast an open fireplace.

Liquid heating

A popular variety that heats the room by circulating hot water. In a small house, such heating can be installed based on the natural circulation of water (it is better to choose floor heating), but in a large house an additional pump should be installed.

Among the advantages of this type is the high thermal conductivity of the water and its economical consumption. But among the disadvantages is the difficult installation, permanent care (in winter, the water should be drained, so the seasonal house will have to come).

Warm floor

The warm floor is usually referred to as electric heating systems. Among the advantages of this type is the possibility of automation (the desired temperature can be set once and for all). The main drawback is the ability to turn off the electricity. Also, underfloor heating entails high financial costs if you heat a large area and creates a large electric field.

So, remember that choosing the heating for a wooden house should provide the following conditions:

1) Uniform warming up of the entire area of the house. Continuous temperature control contributes to the formation of natural climate control in the house from the log house. Keep in mind the length of stay (seasonal/permanent).
2) Take care of safety. If installing the heating system where the pipes will be, ensure that they are carefully insulated. Poor insulation can cause excess moisture and wall overheating in some places.
3) Do not disturb the integrity of the walls. Plan your choice of heating system during the design phase.
